Santa Barbara, SC Guide

Known as one of California’s most picturesque and charming cities, the coastal community of Santa Barbara boasts a gorgeous climate, pristine beaches, marina, cultural venues, shopping and fine dining.  A pleasant drive to the nearby wine country gives visitors an opportunity to taste some of California’s fine wines from its more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms.  Additionally a variety of presentations is regularly featured at the neighboring University of California at Santa Barbara including arts, performances and lectures.  The list goes on and on.

Prominent along the waterfront, the 360 rooms and suites of the rambling Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort stretch along 23 park-like acres overlooking the Pacific.  Each of the rooms, housed in moderately sized units, bear the names of flowers and all boast stunning ocean, mountain or garden views from private patios or balconies.  All guest rooms are handsomely and comfortably decorated and the luxurious 1, 10 square foot Presidential Suite features two bedrooms, dining room, living room and private terrace. All accommodations are attractive, spacious and offer thoughtful amenities for guests.

This Santa Barbara oasis features a huge heated oval shaped swimming pool and whirlpool surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs, tennis courts, putting green, shuffleboard, full service spa and salon for every beauty need, state of the art fitness center and gift shop.  Bicycle and in-line skate rentals are also available.  Just steps away from the resort, miles of sea and sand stretch on and on.  Bicycle paths, the pier and marina are all within walking distance.

For dining, guests may choose from four on-premise locations:  Cafe Los Arcos, Barra Los Arcos, Terraza Del Mar and the stunning Rodney’s Steakhouse.  Through December, 2010, Rodney’s, commemorating its 10th year anniversary, is offering diners a choice of a complimentary glass of Fess Parker wine or a dessert with the purchase of any entree.  The restaurant serves all locally sourced steaks, chops and sustainable seafood.  Luxurious banquettes and oversize dining tables, an enclosed marble fireplace, stunning bar and lounge area and exceptional service all add to a fine dining experience.

Close by, resort guest may take in Santa Barbara’s numerous attractions such as a visit to the handsome mission, the Carriage Museum which preserves and restores vehicles from yesteryear, the zoo, art museum, botanic gardens, El Presidio State Historic Park or shop along State Street.  Another option is a ride in to the wine country or choose never to leave the resort and just relax and enjoy all that is available in this heavenly spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
