The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) new Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition, designed by Renzo Piano, opens the weekend of October 2-3. On that Saturday and Sunday, the public is invited to a Free Community Weekend. The stunning 45,000 square foot Pavilion, situated just north of the Broad Contemporary Museum, is the largest purpose-built, naturally lit open-plan museum space in the world. The opening features three diverse exhibitions: Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico (sculptures); Eye for the Sensual, selections from the Resnick Collection including paintings, furniture, sculpture and decorative arts; and the spectacular Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915, including some undergarments and both men’s and women’s apparel. Opening weekend visitors will also be treated to live Latin music, attend artist workshops, and hear stories in the park and more. It is a fabulous and most welcome new addition to the Los Angeles art scene and a gathering place for all. Free tickets may be reserved online at www.lacma.org or at the ticket office.
