The ten enormously talented and versatile men and women of Diavolo had members of the audience holding our collective breath as we viewed their unique performance at the 2011 season opening of The Broad Stage. The show combines ballet, modern dance, gymnastics, martial arts and acrobatics enhanced by a dramatic musical score. Founded in Los Angeles in 1992 by Jacques Heim, members of Diavolo learn risk-taking, trust and teamwork as a means for achieving personal goals. The audience watched in disbelief and utter fascination as five women and five men leaped, twirled, crawled and hurled themselves through the air while interacting with outrageous and surrealistic sets which form an intrinsic part of each piece of work. The personable Heim took to the stage to explain what we had already seen and were about to see. He has created unique multi-award winning ” large scale interdisciplinary performances examining the way individuals act within their environment.” It’s one of a kind!!!
